Overview
A bespoke e-commerce platform developed for a mandala artist to showcase and sell customizable artwork. Recognizing that her clients prefer high-touch personalization for gifts and art, I engineered a custom shopping experience that bypasses standard payment gateways. Users can build their cart and check out directly via WhatsApp, bridging the gap between digital browsing and direct client-to-artist communication. Challenges
The primary technical hurdle involved the complex logic of converting a multifaceted cart state containing various product IDs, sizes, and quantities into a perfectly formatted, URL-encoded string for the WhatsApp API. This was essential to ensure the artist received a clear, readable order message on her end. Additionally, I had to carefully design the UX handoff to ensure users felt secure and informed when transitioning from a web environment to a personal chat, preventing potential drop-offs during that critical shift in the user journey.
Learnings
This project taught me that standard e-commerce flows are not universal; for bespoke art, prioritizing direct human communication over a rigid payment gateway can significantly drive growth, as evidenced by the 150% increase in inquiries and 90% rise in sales.
